Every year, the Expert Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) brings together 54 specialist magazines, websites and technology commentators from 27 countries to debate the best products in consumer electronics. Its expert groups cover everything from Hi-Fi, Home Theatre & Vision and Photography to Mobile Devices and In-Car Electronics.
The result is one of the most useful annual shortlists in the technology world. Rather than wading through hundreds of new products, you get a collection of kit that’s been put in front of an international panel of specialist media and deemed worthy of an EISA Award.
The 2026-2027 awards were announced on August 24, with the winners formally celebrated at the EISA gala in Berlin on September 4. There are winners across all of EISA’s expert groups, but naturally we’re interested in one particular corner of the trophy cabinet.
This year’s In-Car Electronics awards cover 10 categories, ranging from head units and DSPs to amplifiers, speakers, subwoofers, vehicle integration and OEM audio.
So, if you’re thinking about upgrading your car’s sound system, these are the products EISA thinks you should have on your shopping list.
The big news here is Dolby Atmos in an aftermarket head unit. The Pioneer SPH-EVO109DAB combines a huge 10.1in floating display with wireless and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB+, Bluetooth, a 48-bit DSP and two camera inputs. EISA also highlights Pioneer’s cabin optimisation and spatial processing, which can create an immersive effect even from conventional stereo sources.
In other words, this isn’t simply a giant screen bolted to your dashboard and left to fend for itself. Price is £1,099, with two models available to cover different installation needs,
So, if your idea of a modern car stereo involves a 10.1in screen, Dolby Atmos and enough connectivity to make your old dashboard look like a museum exhibit, this is the unit for you.
If the Pioneer is about adding technology to your car, the Helix Next DSP Ultra XT is about making absolutely everything sound better.
This flagship is a 16-channel high-end DSP designed for seriously ambitious multi-channel systems. It combines extensive analogue and digital connectivity with dual 64-bit DSP processing, ESS SABRE converters, 96kHz/32-bit internal processing and USB PerfectStream via USB-C.
It’s aimed squarely at the sort of installation where the phrase “just make it sound better” turns into a wiring diagram that resembles the London Underground. Distributed in the UK by Midbass Distribution, this DSP is typically available for around £1,899.
Not all award-winning car audio requires a toolbox. In this case, it’s software. Eton’s DSP Control Centre supports Windows, Mac and Linux as well as iOS and Android, with a set-up wizard designed to take the characteristics of the vehicle into account. It also provides measurement functions, configurable filters and time alignment for inputs and outputs, with Eton even allowing integration with user-selected AI tools.
The best bit? The software itself doesn’t require you to find a particularly large hole in your wallet, as it can be downloaded for free at the above link. If you do require some Eton hardware to pair it with, however, the brand is distributed in the UK by Four Car Audio.
Six channels of Class D amplification plus a 12-channel DSP make the ESX VE1000.6SP something of a Swiss Army knife for serious installations (even though the brand is German).
It delivers 2 x 100W RMS at 4 ohms and 4 x 200W at 2 ohms, while incorporating AKM Velvet Sound converters and a 96kHz Analog Devices DSP. There are six amplified outputs and six processed pre-outs, giving installers plenty of options when configuring a system.
A quoted THD figure of just 0.005 per cent at 1W is impressive, and we’ve seen it on sale in the UK for around £1,030, through distributor NEXN Ltd.
Altogether, it’s a powerful all-in-one solution for anyone who wants serious amplification and DSP without filling the boot with separate boxes.
There are big amplifiers. There are powerful amplifiers. And then there are amplifiers that you could probably hide behind a sandwich.
The Musway M4nano measures just 150 x 95 x 45mm, yet packs four Class D amplifier channels and an eight-channel DSP inside. It produces 4 x 55W RMS at 4 ohms, with the ability to bridge channels for up to 190W RMS at 4 ohms.
There are six high-level inputs, four RCA inputs, four amplified outputs and four configurable pre-outs, making it suitable for everything from a straightforward factory upgrade to a fully active system.
Another win for a product distributed in the UK by NEXN Ltd, this is available for around £415. Tiny enough to hide almost anywhere, clever enough to make a convincing case for doing exactly that.
This is where things start getting properly serious.
Ground Zero’s Reference system combines a 6.5in K-165 woofer, 3.15in M-80 mid-range and T-26 tweeter to create a three-way active system without a passive crossover. The K-165 uses a hybrid ferrite/neodymium motor, while the new T-26 uses an inverted titanium dome tweeter – a first for Ground Zero.
The components are designed to work as a complete system, with the emphasis very much on soundstage, accuracy and high-end performance rather than simply making the doors shake.
Like Helix, this is another brand handled in the UK by Midbass Distribution, with this particular set-up likely to cost you around £2,300.
Definitely worth it if your car has become your favourite listening room.
Morel’s Ultimo Pro 104D takes the traditional 10in subwoofer formula and turns every component up a notch.
The 10in driver uses a 5.1in Hexatech dual voice coil, a carbon-fibre and paper cone and a double suspension system. It can be used in sealed or ported enclosures and is designed to deliver deep, powerful bass without sacrificing control.
It’s rated at 1,000W RMS and 3,000W peak, so this isn’t the subwoofer to choose if your definition of bass is “a bit more thump”.
Price for this is around £1,199, with Celsus ICE the UK distributor offering these plus all other Morel products.
If “high-end” in the category title wasn’t enough of a clue, Brax hasn’t exactly gone for the budget end of the market.
This three-way system comprises the ML28 Pro tweeter, ML80 Pro mid-range and ML165 Pro woofer, combining lightweight carbon-fleece membranes, a coated silk dome tweeter and meticulous German construction. EISA describes it as a no-compromise approach to in-car hi-fi, with the emphasis on linearity, dynamics, musicality and detail.
And yes, the price reflects all of that – around £3,350 for everything you see here, with the tweeters at £859, mid-ranges at £990 and the woofers at £1,499. Another top brand that Midbass Distribution handles in the UK.
Not everyone wants to rip out the factory stereo, replace half the interior and explain to their dealer why the warranty has suddenly become complicated.
Phoenix Gold’s ZD Series takes a different approach, offering plug-and-play upgrades tailored to individual vehicles. Its ecosystem includes DSP-equipped ZDA amplifiers, ZDT wiring harnesses and vehicle-specific DSP configurations, with a database covering more than 2,500 vehicles.
That means you can upgrade the sound while keeping the factory head unit, controls and original-looking interior. Prices will vary according to your vehicle and the system specified, but many UK specialist retailers stock ZD products and can offer advice.
And finally, something you can’t simply order from a car-audio retailer and install on Saturday afternoon.
The Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System fitted to the BMW 7-Series takes factory-fitted audio to frankly ridiculous levels, with up to 36 speakers, 32 amplifier channels and 1,965W of amplification. The system includes Diamond Nautilus tweeters, Continuum mid-range drivers, headrest speakers and 4D seat exciters that add a physical element to the bass.
Dolby Atmos is supported too, while the system can be paired with BMW’s enormous 31.3in 8K Theatre Screen for rear-seat passengers.
This is an optional factory upgrade when purchasing a 7-Series, available through your nearest BMW dealer.
