FineVu is giving owners of its GX400 and GX1100 4K dash cams another way to keep an eye on what’s happening behind the car with a new external rear camera – perfect for vehicles with no rear windows (hello, van drivers!) or where an internal rear camera isn’t possible.
We looked at the current FineVu range distributed in the UK by In Car Products in a previous post.
The new compact rear camera uses Full HD 1920x1080 recording at 30fps, with an AHD video connection and a 138-degree diagonal field of view. A 1/2.8in sensor and F2.0 aperture are designed to keep things visible when the light starts disappearing too.
It connects to compatible FineVu dash cams using a 6m cable as standard, while an additional 11m cable is available on request. That should make it suitable for everything from relatively compact hatchbacks to vehicles where the rear camera is a considerable distance from the front-mounted recorder.
The camera is also built to cope with life outside the cabin, with an operating temperature range of -25 to 70 degrees C and a storage temperature range of -30 to 80 degrees C. Power consumption is a modest 130mA at 5V.
In other words, it’s a fairly simple proposition: if your FineVu set-up already has the front covered, this gives it another pair of eyes at the back without replacing the whole system.
And with a 138-degree view, it should have a pretty good idea what’s going on back there. Hopefully nothing interesting.
In terms of pricing, the GX400 costs £199 for front-only, with the GX1100 4K at £349. Exec Spec in Ilkeston is already stocking the camera, with prices starting at £299. The team even created a video to show one installed on a van.
