With schools now breaking up for the summer holidays, parents looking for ways to keep young car enthusiasts entertained can head to the British Motor Museum, which is hosting a packed programme of family activities until September 2. The Warwickshire attraction is bringing together two major exhibitions this summer, combining the digital world of gaming with some of the most recognisable cars from the past few decades.
The headline attraction is Forza Horizon 6: The Experience, giving visitors the chance to explore a selection of cars featured in the game before taking the wheel of a racing simulator and putting their virtual driving skills to the test. Visitors who set a lap time will also have the chance to win a Forza Horizon-themed goody bag, with prizes available throughout the school holidays thanks to the museum’s partnership with Playground Games.
The exhibition features family trails, with seven cars from the museum collection that appear in Forza Horizon 6 waiting to be discovered. Children can collect stamps in their Tank Passport as they explore the museum, while activity sheets encourage younger visitors to find Tank characters hidden around the collection.
For fans of older performance cars, Spoiler Alert: The Hot Hatch Story celebrates the era of affordable, fun-to-drive heroes from the 1980s and 1990s, featuring iconic vehicles alongside a retro soundtrack and colourful displays. The museum will host dedicated Spoiler Alert themed days on August 17-21 and 24-28, including family tours, character appearances and remote-controlled car racing for younger visitors.
Families can also experience a ride in cars inspired by the exhibition, with trips available in a 1980 Triumph Dolomite or 1984 Vauxhall Astra on weekdays between July 20 and August 28.
Away from the exhibitions, children can enjoy the museum’s Creation Station, building their own cars or Cube-Bots using card, craft materials and simple circuitry to add lights and movement. Other summer activities include weekend shows, Mini Motorist Mondays, Mellow Monday on August 3 and Summer Access Day on August 13.
With child tickets available for just £1 until September 1 as part of the Great British Summer Savings scheme, the museum is offering an affordable way for families to spend a day surrounded by automotive history, technology and interactive experiences.
The British Motor Museum is located in Gaydon, Warwickshire. Adult tickets start from £18 when booked in advance, with children aged five-16 priced at £1 until September 1. Under-fives enter free.
