Phoenix Gold Unveils Limited-Edition Elite Three-Way Speaker System – And Yes, It’s as Serious as It Sounds

If you know your car audio history, you’ll know Phoenix Gold doesn’t throw the “Elite” badge around lightly. So when the brand turns up at Car Media World in Salzburg with a brand-new flagship and says “limited edition”, you pay attention.

Enter the ZQ-ELITE.3 – a full-fat, no-compromise three-way component system, capped at just 100 units worldwide. Not “limited” in the marketing sense. Actually limited.

You get a three-way layout: a 6.5in (165mm) mid-bass, a 3in (76mm) mid-range, and a 2in (50.8mm) AMT tweeter – the last item being the real talking point. AMT (Air Motion Transformer) tweeters are still a bit of a rarity in car audio, prized for their lightning-fast response and seriously detailed top end. In other words, expect crisp highs without that ice-pick harshness cheaper tweeters love.

Expect a wide, natural soundstage from these 2in AMT tweeters

Both the mid-bass and mid-range drivers use carbon-fibre composite cones, aiming for that sweet spot of rigidity and control, while power handling sits at a healthy 80W RMS (160W peak) for the mid-bass and 40W RMS for the mid-range. Frequency response stretches from a low-end 45Hz all the way up to a frankly ridiculous 40kHz at the top end, which is well beyond what your ears can hear – but still exactly the kind of spec sheet flex you want at this level.

Expect a clean, natural soundstage, with vocals sitting where they should and instruments not fighting for space – the sort of set-up that makes you stay in the car for 10 minutes after you’ve parked just to finish a track.

Only 100 of these limited-edition sets will be produced worldwide

Then there’s the presentation. Each system comes packaged like it means business, with individual component boxes housed in a carry case – very much “this is special” energy, rather than “chuck it in and hope for the best”.

Just check out the unboxing video here.

Phoenix Gold is calling these its “best ever speakers”, which is a bold claim given its back catalogue. But the ZQ-Series as a whole is meant to channel that old-school DNA – enthusiast-led, a bit obsessive, and built by people who actually care how things sound, not just how they spec-sheet.

Presentation is everything – the speakers come in a briefcase

Price-wise, we’ve seen them listed at €830.50 (roughly £710), which, for a limited-run flagship with this kind of hardware, is… actually not outrageous. Expensive, yes. But not “sell a kidney” territory.

Every now and then, the car audio world needs something a bit excessive, a bit nerdy, and a bit special. This is one of those times.
