Focal Expands Slatefiber Range With Six New In-Car Speaker Options

French hi-fi specialist Focal has expanded its Slatefiber speaker range, adding six new models designed to give installers and enthusiasts more flexibility when upgrading vehicle audio systems.

The move builds on the Slatefiber technology first introduced to Focal’s car audio line in 2022, following its wider use across the brand’s home hi-fi and professional audio products. Rather than reinventing the platform, this latest expansion is about scaling it – offering more configurations to suit different vehicles and install approaches.

At the core of the range is Focal’s Slatefiber cone material, manufactured in France using recycled carbon fibres combined with a thermoplastic polymer. The idea is to strike a balance between rigidity, low weight and damping – three factors that directly influence how accurately a speaker can respond inside a car cabin. In practice, Focal claims that translates to controlled bass response, strong mid-range clarity and high-frequency detail without harshness.

The expanded line-up now covers a wide spread of install needs. It includes 6.5in (165mm) three-way component kits, 6.5in and 8in (200mm) two-way component options, a 6.5in coaxial speaker for simpler upgrades, a compact 2.5in (65mm) mid-range driver, and an 8in subwoofer.

Power handling and sensitivity vary across the range, with the 165mm kits rated at 80W RMS and 91dB sensitivity, while the dedicated mid-range driver focuses on upper-mid clarity up to 11kHz. Tweeters use aluminium/magnesium inverted dome construction with adjustable output levels (-3/0/+3dB) to help tailor response to different cabin acoustics.

The subwoofer sits at 200W RMS (400W peak), designed to deliver controlled low-end extension without overwhelming the rest of the system – more tight and responsive than exaggerated boom.

Design-wise, Focal has kept things consistent with its wider Slatefiber aesthetic, pairing the textured cone finish with a rigid aluminium basket structure. Install practicality has also been factored in, with modular mounting hardware and separable crossovers intended to simplify integration across a wide range of vehicles.

No UK pricing has been confirmed yet, but this sits firmly in Focal’s premium tier – aimed at installers and enthusiasts building proper system upgrades rather than entry-level replacements. In the UK, Focal distribution is handled by Stinger.
