IMAX has announced a strategic partnership with Goer Dynamics – the parent company of brands including Dynaudio, Libratone and XEO – to develop what the companies describe as the world’s first IMAX-branded in-vehicle entertainment system. This will combine immersive surround sound with a 4K HDR display designed specifically for next-generation autonomous vehicles.
The companies expect the system to enter production before the end of 2026, targeting premium vehicle manufacturers across China before a wider global rollout. According to IMAX, the collaboration reflects a growing belief that as autonomous driving develops, the vehicle cabin will evolve into a “third living space” where entertainment becomes as important as transportation.

Daniel Manwaring, CEO of IMAX China, said: “With the advent of autonomous driving, we believe car buyers will increasingly focus on immersive entertainment systems in their purchase decisions. With our strong global brand and expertise in entertainment technology, we believe IMAX has the opportunity to set a new standard in premium in-vehicle entertainment.”
The system combines IMAX’s picture and sound expertise with Goer Dynamics’ automotive audio experience, using a bespoke multi-dimensional speaker architecture designed to deliver high dynamic range, deep low-frequency performance and distortion-free bass.

Visual performance is handled by a large flip-down 4K HDR display that automatically adapts to changing lighting conditions inside the vehicle while maintaining cinema-quality picture reproduction. Rather than developing a one-size-fits-all solution, the companies say the system will be available in modular configurations, allowing manufacturers to specify different speaker layouts and equipment levels across multiple vehicle platforms.
Goer Dynamics believes premium entertainment will become an increasingly important purchase consideration as software-defined vehicles and autonomous driving continue to reshape customer expectations.
Tony Jiang, Chairman and CEO of Goer Dynamics, said: “Autonomous driving continues to reshape the relationship between people and their vehicles, and the in-car immersive audio-visual experience will gradually become a key consideration for consumers when purchasing smart vehicles.”

The announcement also reflects a broader trend across the automotive industry, with manufacturers increasingly viewing the cabin as a connected digital environment rather than simply a driving space. As vehicles gain larger displays, faster processors and always-on connectivity, entertainment is becoming a major battleground alongside performance, range and driver assistance technology.
If IMAX succeeds in bringing its cinema brand into production vehicles, it could represent another significant step in the industry’s transition from traditional infotainment systems towards fully immersive in-car entertainment experiences.
