Mercedes-Benz has unveiled an updated version of its GLA compact SUV, with the biggest changes taking place inside the cabin as the brand continues its push towards software-defined vehicles.

The latest GLA introduces an enhanced version of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment platform, featuring a fully digital cockpit, expanded connected services and an AI-powered voice assistant designed to make interaction with the vehicle more natural.

Drivers can continue to activate the system using the familiar “Hey Mercedes” wake phrase, while cloud-based AI allows the assistant to understand more conversational requests and deliver increasingly personalised responses. The refreshed system also supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, alongside over-the-air software updates that enable Mercedes-Benz to add new features and improve functionality throughout the vehicle’s life.

Inside, dual high-resolution displays create a widescreen digital dashboard, combining driver information with central infotainment controls, while improved graphics and faster processing contribute to a smoother user experience. Navigation also benefits from augmented reality functions, overlaying directional guidance onto live camera images to make junctions and complex road layouts easier to follow.

Mercedes says the updated technology is designed to reduce distraction while increasing convenience, allowing drivers to access navigation, media, climate control and vehicle functions through either voice or touch.

As with many new Mercedes-Benz models, the latest GLA demonstrates how software is becoming just as important as hardware in differentiating premium vehicles. Rather than relying solely on engine performance or cabin materials, manufacturers are increasingly competing on digital experiences, connected services and intelligent assistance systems.
