Formula E might be one of the quietest forms of motorsport, but Sennheiser wants to make sure that doesn’t mean it sounds any less exciting.
The audio specialist has signed a multi-year partnership to become the championship’s Official Sound Provider, bringing its professional audio technology and AMBEO immersive audio platform to the series.
The partnership will explore how advanced audio capture, processing and encoding can be used across Formula E’s broadcasts and trackside operations, creating a more immersive experience for fans watching at home.
The focus will be on capturing the distinctive sounds of Formula E’s cars and surrounding environment, with Sennheiser aiming to create a more natural, three-dimensional listening experience. Its AMBEO technology is designed to capture, process and reproduce immersive sound, potentially allowing viewers to experience the action from a perspective closer to being at the circuit.
“Innovation and technology are at the core of Formula E, and Sennheiser is the perfect partner to help us redefine the audio landscape of our championship,” says Dan Cherowbrier, CTO of Formula E.
The partnership will look at both in-car and trackside soundscapes, including fan zones and VIP hospitality, with Sennheiser suggesting that the aim isn’t simply to make Formula E louder, but to capture the character and atmosphere of electric racing in greater detail.
The timing is particularly appropriate, with the 2026 Hankook London E-Prix taking place at ExCeL London this weekend, as Formula E’s 2025/26 season reaches its conclusion.
The London double-header takes place from August 15-16, giving fans an early opportunity to experience the championship’s latest generation of racing – and potentially hear it in a rather different way.
