A dashcam has captured the terrifying moment a lorry lost control and ploughed into a layby on the A34 near Oxford, leaving two people seriously injured.
Driver Tracey Hosker, 35, was behind the wheel of a box van being taken to port for export when its brakes failed. The vehicle smashed into two parked cars, sending all three into a ditch.
Footage shows the van tearing down the carriageway between the Peartree and Botley interchanges before veering off the road. Hosker admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving and received a suspended 22-month prison sentence, a four-year driving ban and community service.
Police released the clip to highlight the danger of unroadworthy vehicles being driven to export ports, warning that many stopped en route to Southampton have had serious safety defects – from worn tyres to faulty brakes.
For the rest of us, it’s another reminder why dashcams aren’t just for insurance claims – they capture the split-second moments that can make or break a case, and sometimes, go viral for all the wrong reasons.
