If you’ve ever dismissed shallow subwoofers as a compromise too far, Wavtech’s new ThinPRO range is here to have a quiet word with you — and then promptly rearrange your boot. Wavtech is a US brand available in the UK through distributors Celsus.

Available in 10 and 12in sizes, the ThinPRO subwoofers are designed for installs where space is tight but expectations aren’t. Despite a mounting depth of just 2.9in on the 10in model and 3in on the 12, these subs are rated at a serious 750W RMS and offer over 2in of peak-to-peak excursion — figures that many full-depth subs would struggle to match.
The clever bit lies in Wavtech’s patent-pending motor and suspension design. Dual mirrored NBR spiders and an axial force transfer assembly keep everything moving cleanly and under control, while a massive dual-stacked strontium magnet motor and a hefty 5in voice coil provide the muscle. The honeycomb Nomex and glass-fibre cone keeps things rigid without adding unnecessary weight, helping the ThinPRO deliver punchy, controlled bass rather than the usual shallow-sub wheeze.

Crucially, this isn’t a sub that demands acres of airspace. The ThinPRO is happy working in genuinely small enclosures, whether sealed or ported. For the 12in model, sealed boxes start at around 0.4 cu ft with a sweet spot at 0.6 cu ft, while ported enclosures can be as compact as 1.0 cu ft. In other words, it’ll go places most subs simply won’t.
If you want proper output without sacrificing half the car, this is very much one to hear before judging. Expect to pay £749 for the 12in, £699 for the 10in, with both 2 and 4 ohm options available.
