US authorities have seized 58kg of cocaine after it was discovered hidden inside a boot-mounted subwoofer enclosure during a routine traffic stop in Texas, in a case later linked to West Tennessee.
Erick Chaparro-Gamboa, 28, from Denver, Colorado, has been sentenced to 54 months in federal prison following the seizure and subsequent investigation.

According to the US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Tennessee, the vehicle was stopped by the Texas Department of Public Safety on August 9, 2025. Officers discovered the drugs concealed inside audio equipment before the Drug Enforcement Administration was called in to assist.
Investigators later confirmed the shipment was destined for West Tennessee, with an estimated street value of around US$750,000 (£553,000 approx).
Chaparro-Gamboa pleaded guilty in January 2026 to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine.
The case involved multiple agencies including the DEA, Homeland Security Investigations and state law enforcement partners across Texas and Tennessee.
