Morel Expands High-End Elate Speaker Range with Carbon Neo Models and New Tweeters

Morel has expanded its high-end Elate Carbon speaker range with the Elate Carbon Neo series, combining updated acoustic technology with a more eye-catching design that might make installers think twice before hiding them behind a grille.

The most obvious change from the older models is the styling. Each driver features a precision CNC-machined, brushed-aluminium surround that frames its carbon-fibre composite cone, giving the speakers a more distinctive appearance.

Beneath the finish, the woofers and mid-range drivers use Morel’s TLC triple-layer carbon-fibre and Rohacell composite-cone construction. Revised motor and suspension designs are intended to improve linearity, reduce distortion and deliver faster transient response.

The range also introduces the new MT-550 tweeter, featuring a handcrafted 28mm Acuflex-coated soft dome and an optimised double-neodymium motor system. Morel says the design is intended to deliver smooth, detailed and natural high-frequency reproduction. Alternatively, the Carbon Neo Pro line features the Alto Neo tweeter, with its more powerful neodymium motor and ASW (Anti-Standing Wave) rear chamber, designed to reduce resonance and distortion while improving clarity and spatial definition.

There are several system configurations to choose from. The Elate Carbon Neo 62 and 62A are two-way component sets with 6.5in woofers, while the Neo Pro 62 and 62A include the uprated tweeter. For a three-way system, look to the Carbon Neo 63 and 63A models with the MT-550 tweeter, or include the Alto Neo tweeter with the Neo Pro 63 and 63A systems. The 93A is a three-way active system featuring a 9in woofer, also with a Neo Pro version.

The model suffixes distinguish between passive and active configurations, with the active versions designed for systems using external amplification and processing. This gives installers flexibility to tailor a system to the vehicle and the desired set-up.

Power handling varies by configuration. Morel gives the 6.5in systems a power-handling rating of 180W RMS, while the 9in Elate Carbon Neo 93A systems are rated at 200W RMS. Expect prices to run into the thousands when they arrive in the UK via distributor Celsus.

But Morel knows its stuff when it comes to speakers – having won an EISA Award this year for Best In-Car Subwoofer with the Ultimo Pro 104D. Pair them with the right system, and they should make for an impressive upgrade.
