eBay Says This £10 Fix Could Make Your In-Car Experience Healthier (and Less Sneezy)

Turns out one of the easiest ways to improve your driving experience isn’t a new gadget – it’s a part most people don’t even know exists. According to eBay, 42% of UK drivers aren’t aware their car has a cabin air filter, which is doing a pretty important job keeping dust, pollen and pollutants out of the interior.

That’s not ideal when nearly half of drivers (49%) suffer from hay fever. A clogged or old filter can let all that lovely spring pollen straight into the cabin, turning your commute into a rolling sneeze-fest.

It gets worse. Around 35% of drivers have never checked or replaced their cabin filter at all, despite it being one of the quickest and cheapest bits of maintenance you can do. We’re talking as little as £10 and about 10 minutes of effort in many cases – usually just a screwdriver job behind the glovebox or under the dash.

Air as clean as a brand new Mercedes-Benz GLS? It could be just a small fix away

And it’s not just allergies. Blocked filters can cause foggy windows that take ages to clear (57% of drivers have experienced this), dodgy smells (32%), and weak air-con performance (21%). None of which exactly scream “premium driving experience”.

Even so, more than half of motorists say they wouldn’t feel confident changing it themselves. That’s where tools like eBay’s My Garage come in, letting you punch in your reg and find the right part without any guesswork.

Interestingly, younger drivers seem to be more on it – 24% of Millennials have changed theirs in the last six months, compared to just 9% of Baby Boomers. Maybe YouTube tutorials really are the new Haynes manual.

Bottom line: if your car smells a bit off, your windows fog up too easily, or you’re sneezing more than usual, it might not be the car – it might just be that forgotten filter. And for a tenner, it’s probably worth sorting.
