Edge Car Audio’s Scorch ‘Commitment Indicator’ Claims World First Status for Subwoofer Limit Warning

Edge Car Audio has launched something called the Scorch Sensor Unit, which it claims is the world’s first “commitment indicator” for subwoofer systems.

In normal terms? It’s a £99 add-on that tells you exactly when your system is reaching clipping – the point where your amplifier is pushing beyond clean output and your voice coil starts to have an existential crisis.

Check out this cool promo video that shows the Scorch in action, blinking away:

The sensor unit is a small terminal-mounted device that attaches directly to your subwoofer’s positive and negative posts. Once installed and calibrated using an SMD DD1 signal analyser, it monitors your system’s output and reacts as you push it harder.

Edge describes it as a kind of “visual performance gauge”, but in reality it’s closer to a very dramatic warning light for people who enjoy running their bass right on the edge of destruction. It glows as you approach the limit, then gets brighter the harder you push.

And at the exact clip point, a 500-lumen LED fires – Edge calls this the “finish line”.

Connect the Scorch to your subwoofer terminals, calibrate, and you’re done

If you’re running a properly set-up system, you shouldn’t be hitting clipping regularly anyway. But in the real world – especially in demo cars, SPL builds, or “just one more turn on the gain” situations – people often push things further than they should.

That’s where the Scorch sits: not as a toy, but as a very visible reminder that your system has limits, even if your ears don’t. It’s also a pretty cool badge of honour for those who like living on the edge of thermal failure, as the included “Certificate of Commitment” (yes, really) shows.

Whether you see this as genuinely useful or slightly over-the-top depends entirely on how close your subs live to the danger zone. But one thing’s for sure: if it lights up in your boot, you’re probably not listening quietly.
