Car Audio Competition Season Begins as EMMA Releases Official Test Tracks

If you’ve ever wondered what separates a “nice sounding system” from a properly judged competition build, this is how to find out.

The European Mobile Media Association (EMMA) has just launched its 2026 season by releasing its official test tracks – the same reference material used by judges to score systems across Europe.

The tracks are now available to download via the EMMA webshop for €29 (about £25), and come in multiple formats, including high-resolution 24-bit/96kHz FLAC and WAV, alongside CD-quality and MP3 options, with the full package weighing in at around 2GB.

So what are they actually for?

The EMMA track pack is split into two sections. The first is technical material used to assess imaging and staging – how well a system places sound in space, including width, height and instrument positioning inside the cabin. This is where sound quality (SQ), or clarity, accuracy and realism, is put under the microscope.

The second section focuses on musical tracks, used to judge tonal balance, detail and overall system character. It’s less about showing off and more examining how natural and controlled your set-up actually sounds.

For context, EMMA is one of Europe’s main car audio competition bodies, where systems are judged not just on SQ, but also sound pressure level (SPL), which means outright volume, as well as installation quality and multimedia integration.

The 2026 season has already begun, with the opening event taking place in Salzburg alongside the annual Car Media World show. Around 250 competition vehicles from more than 20 countries took part, with judges working through more than 800 score sheets across a busy three-day schedule.

Germany came out on top with nine European champion titles, while teams from the UK, Finland and Sweden also picked up wins across multiple categories.

But even if you’re not about to start chasing trophies across Europe, if you want to hear what “properly tuned” really means, these are the tracks used to define it.
