What starts with a DM can apparently end with a full-blown DJ van build featuring Kicker subs, Pioneer kit and enough power to throw a rave outside a car audio shop.

Team Impulse in Watford has revealed one of its biggest custom projects to date – a bespoke performance Nissan Cube built for viral DJ sensation Fish56Octagon, lovingly referred to as The Fish Project.

Known for his hugely popular home DJ videos, late-night livestreams and trademark dressing gown, Fish56Octagon went from posting nostalgic rave mixes online during lockdown to performing at major festivals and venues worldwide, including Glastonbury, the O2 Academy Brixton and Dreamstate SoCal in California.

According to Impulse, the entire build started with a direct message on social media. “We got Fish down to the shop, planned out the idea, then brought brands like Kicker, Dynamat and Pioneer on board,” the company explains in its Instagram video.

Dynamat and Kicker are both distributed in the UK by Celsus ICE.

The goal was simple: create a fully mobile DJ set-up capable of delivering proper nightclub-level sound from the vehicle itself, while still remaining usable day-to-day.

That meant a serious amount of custom fabrication work from the Watford-based team, including a bespoke audio installation built around a large Kicker subwoofer system with assistance from ED Design, extensive sound deadening from Dynamat, and Pioneer equipment integrated throughout the build, including the fold-out turntables.

“This was a proper build, not just a quick install,” adds Impulse.

The system was designed around Fish’s own performance style, allowing him to DJ directly from the vehicle using a battery-powered decks set-up mounted inside. Video from the reveal shows the rear of the vehicle transformed into a mobile performance space, complete with integrated flashing lighting, while up front are custom speaker grilles carrying Fish’s branding.

“Mate, that’s unbelievable… I can’t believe it,” Fish says during the reveal video. “You’ve even got disco lights… Oh look, you’ve got ‘Fish Octagon’ baffles for the speakers.”

The Impulse team then fine-tuned the system in the workshop before Fish took the set-up outside for an impromptu live performance in front of the shop. He later posted: “Mate it’s ridiculous, I’ll be making some sick content with this car. Absolutely love it – thanks so much for all the time and effort.”

And yes, somewhere in Watford, there is now apparently a van capable of hosting a rave in a retail park car park at very short notice.
