JL Audio Heads Into the Living Room with New Primacy High-End Home Audio System

Garmin has unveiled a new high-end home audio range under the JL Audio brand, marking a rare case of a car audio name moving into home hi-fi rather than the other way around.

Called Primacy, the new system combines active loudspeakers, built-in amplification, DSP processing and room correction into what Garmin describes as a “luxury audio” platform aimed at simplifying high-end home listening.

Floor-standing T6 speakers deliver full-scale, room-filling sound

Available as either the larger T6 floor-standing speakers or smaller S3 stand-mount units, the systems ditch traditional passive crossover designs in favour of fully active amplification, with dedicated amps driving each speaker section individually. JL Audio says this allows for tighter control, better damping and more precise tuning.

In other words: the sort of DSP-heavy thinking car audio enthusiasts will already be very familiar with.

“Primacy reflects our unwavering commitment to integrate modern lifestyles and technologies into luxury audio that’s high performing, beautifully built and uniquely optimised for the space it’s in,” says Susan Lyman, Garmin Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing.

Compact S3 stand-mounts pack Primacy’s active tech into a smaller footprint

One of the headline features is PARO (Primacy Automatic Room Optimisation), which measures the listening environment and automatically adjusts EQ, crossover points, timing and levels for the room and seating position.

The system also supports studio-grade Dante digital networking, alongside streaming support for Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz, Apple AirPlay, Google Cast and Roon.

Visually, the systems are about as far removed from carpeted boot builds as you can get, with precision-machined aluminium enclosures and minimalist styling clearly aimed at the luxury home market.

Still, beneath the polished finishes and audiophile language, there’s plenty here that will sound familiar to anyone deep into aftermarket car audio: DSP tuning, active crossovers, time alignment and carefully managed acoustics.

The difference is that this time, the listening room isn't on wheels.
