MTX Enters DSP Market With Compact Plug-and-Play Tuning Unit

MTX Audio has officially stepped into the digital signal processing (DSP) space with the launch of the TL-8.8DSP – an eight-channel processor designed to make system tuning more accessible without stripping out the serious control users expect.

This is MTX’s first real push into standalone DSP hardware, and it’s clearly aimed at a slightly overlooked group - those who either find DSP intimidating or have been put off it entirely after a bad setup experience.

The result is a dual-mode approach. A simplified “basic” mode offers 13-band equalisation and quick tuning adjustments, designed to get systems up and running without deep technical knowledge. For installers and advanced users, switching into full mode unlocks 31-band parametric EQ with complete control over gain, frequency and Q factor.

The idea is pretty straightforward – give entry-level users a safe starting point, while still offering proper tuning depth for professionals.

Physically, the TL-8.8DSP is compact enough to disappear almost anywhere, measuring just 10.2 x 9.8 x 2.8cm. That means under seats, behind trims, or alongside existing amplifiers, including powersport and motorcycle applications where space is at a premium.

Connectivity is equally flexible, with support for eight channels of high-level or low-level inputs and up to 16V input handling, meaning it can integrate directly with factory systems as well as aftermarket set-ups. On the output side, it provides eight 4.5V pre-outs for external amplification.

Compact in size, the DSP can be hidden away

Control is handled via Bluetooth through iOS and Android apps, with support for up to six onboard presets. These can be switched on the fly, allowing different tuning profiles depending on driving conditions, music style or vehicle use. Crossover control includes Linkwitz-Riley, Butterworth and Bessel filters, with selectable slopes from 12-48dB per octave, alongside adjustable time alignment for more precise staging.

The unit is powered by an ADAU1452 DSP chip and offers a frequency response of 20Hz–24kHz, a signal-to-noise ratio above 90dB and total harmonic distortion below 0.21%, placing it firmly in line with mainstream aftermarket DSP expectations.

In the UK, distribution of MTX is handled by Celsus ICE, with local pricing yet to be confirmed but likely landing in the mid-range DSP bracket once converted and taxed.
