Phoenix Gold has expanded its BMW upgrade range with three new plug-and-play harness solutions designed specifically for vehicles fitted with Active Sound Design (ASD), which pipes artificial engine noise through the car’s speakers.
Not everyone is a fan, but these harnesses remove the synthetic soundtrack while remaining fully reversible, allowing owners to return the vehicle to standard at any time.
Compatible with many BMW models produced between 2008 and 2019, the new ZDC-BMW2, ZDC-BMW3 and ZDC-BMW4 harnesses cost around £79, £85 and £30 respectively, simplifying upgrades while eliminating the need for extensive rewiring.

For BMW owners chasing maximum audio performance, the ZDC-BMW2 converts the factory system into a fully active set-up. This separates the front door speakers and under-seat woofers onto individual amplifier channels, allowing each driver to be tuned independently.
Phoenix Gold says the arrangement delivers significantly more power to the under-seat bass drivers, particularly when used with its ZDA6.8 DSP amplifier, sold separately.
The ZDC-BMW3 takes a different approach, retaining the factory passive speaker configuration while providing a plug-and-play connection for aftermarket amplification. Designed for use with amplifiers such as the ZDA4.8 and ZXM400.4ISO, it’s aimed at owners who want more power and improved sound quality without undertaking a full system redesign.

Finally, the ZDC-BMW4 harness simply bypasses the ASD module, making it ideal for drivers who don’t necessarily want an audio upgrade but do want to eliminate the synthetic engine sound.
With BMW audio upgrades becoming increasingly complicated as factory systems become more integrated, Phoenix Gold’s latest releases focus on something refreshingly simple: making improvements easier to install.
The brand already offers a range of vehicle-specific amplifier, DSP, speaker and subwoofer upgrade packages for various BMW models, as well as other vehicles, but these new harnesses make installation even easier. Search your own car make and model on the company’s website to see what’s available.
