SEMA 2026: Getting Up Close with AudioControl’s 36,000W VW ID. Buzz – with More Than 60 Speakers and Subwoofers

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz is already a pretty distinctive-looking van, but AudioControl has found a way to make sure you notice it for an entirely different reason at this week’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Dubbed the Epic Buzz, the company’s electric people-carrier has been transformed into a seriously ambitious rolling sound system, which is on display at the Stinger stand. It packs 36,000W of power, 16 amplifiers and more than 60 speakers and subwoofers.

The lowered, two-tone Buzz sits on custom wheels, but it’s what’s inside that really matters. As you can see in the video below, there’s a sign on the front seat that reads “Sorry about your stock audio” – which feels like a fairly reasonable warning to anyone about to hear what this thing can do.

36,000W of Audio Madness

The ID. Buzz system is built around a formidable collection of AudioControl hardware, including three DM-810 digital signal processors (DSPs), 16 amplifiers and a mixture of EPIC PRO speakers and EPICX subwoofers.

The EPIC PRO range is designed to deliver high output, using lightweight speaker cones, powerful motor assemblies and horn-loaded high frequencies to make the most of the available amplifiers. That power comes from a mixture of EPIC Series Class D amplifiers, including four EPIC4000 monoblocks and three EPIC2000 units.

For the bass, eight 8in EPICX subwoofers are joined by eight 15in EPICX models and four additional SPC-10S4 subwoofers. An EPICENTER PRO bass restoration processor helps bring back low-frequency information that can be missing from compressed music, giving the amplifiers plenty to get their teeth into.

The DM-810 processors keep the system under control, allowing installers to control crossovers, equalisation and time alignment across the many speakers. The result, according to AudioControl, is concert-level volume with studio-style clarity.

A Rather Extensive Shopping List

The full installation includes two LC7i PRO line output converters, a Stinger HORIZON12 aftermarket head unit, two EPICFOUR amplifiers, six EPICBIGFOUR units and one EPICSIX, alongside the larger amplifiers and speaker systems.

It’s a substantial demonstration of what can be achieved with AudioControl’s equipment, but the company is also keen to point out that the technology isn’t just for show cars. Its line output converters can help installers add aftermarket amplification to a factory audio system, while the DM-810 DSP provides control over the sound from individual speakers.

The EPIC PRO speakers, EPICX subwoofers and EPIC amplifiers are also available for more conventional installations – although perhaps not all 62 components at once.

AudioControl has even gathered the products featured in the Buzz into a dedicated SEMA build collection, for anyone tempted to borrow a little inspiration for their own installation.
