The days when a car stereo was simply a way to listen to music are disappearing.

As vehicles become increasingly connected, the dashboard is evolving into a digital command centre combining entertainment, navigation, vehicle controls and personalised services. According to a new market report from Value Market Research, the global car infotainment market is expected to grow from US$26.05 billion (£19.9 billion) in 2025 to US$51.26 billion (£38.48 billion) by 2034.

The report predicts a 7.81% annual growth rate as manufacturers invest in larger displays, smarter software platforms and AI-powered experiences.

Modern infotainment systems are already moving well beyond traditional menus and buttons. New vehicles are increasingly featuring conversational voice assistants, over-the-air updates and connected services designed to keep the cabin evolving throughout the vehicle’s lifespan.

Recent launches highlight the shift. Volvo has already introduced natural, conversational AI with Google Gemini for drivers of its recent models, while BMW is working on an AI-powered intelligent personal assistant with Alexa+.

For aftermarket specialists, the changing landscape creates both challenges and opportunities. While factory systems are becoming more advanced, demand remains for upgrades that improve sound quality, connectivity and functionality, particularly as more drivers keep their vehicles for longer.

The report identifies display technology as the largest component segment, accounting for 42.24% of the market in 2025, while Android-based operating systems currently lead the infotainment platform race with a 65.36% share.

Leading players were identified as Continental, DENSO, Harman International, Pioneer, Panasonic Automotive Systems Europe GmbH, Robert Bosch GmbH, Visteon Corporation, Alpine Electronics Inc, Aptiv, Desay SV, LG Electronics, Garmin, TomTom and Mitsubishi Electric, competing on UX design, OS partnerships and connectivity innovation.

Asia Pacific led the market with a 37.27% share in 2025, driven by booming vehicle production in China and India, rising consumer preference for tech-laden cars, and aggressive infotainment localisation by regional and global OEMs.

However, the future battle is likely to be fought over software rather than hardware.

As vehicles become increasingly software-defined, infotainment platforms could become a major factor in brand loyalty, with manufacturers competing not only on engines and styling, but on the digital experience waiting inside the cabin.
